3.6 In the baseline simulations, all agents have the same sensory capabilities: they can only detect the target if it is within a maximum distance of 5 cells. The same is true for the simulations with a leader described in the preceding section: the leader influences the behavior of followers but has the same sensory capabilities as the other members of the group. We now provide one individual with better sensory capabilities than the others, allowing it to detect targets at a distance of 15 cells. Table 3 shows that in the absence of a leader the effects on group performance are marginal.
